USDA’s Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program has been operating since 1969, and has successfully addressed critical societal concerns by employing paraprofessional staff and influencing nutrition and physical activity behaviors of low-income families, particularly those with young children. Through a community-based, relationship-driven, hands-on educational approach, EFNEP has directly impacted economic, obesity, and food insecurity challenges that hinder the health and well being of this nation.
To supplement our nutrition education classes, my team wanted to create an easy to use website to give people the resources that they will take away from each class. It was important to highlight two main use cases: A hub of useful and inexpensive recipes that students and families can easily access in their own time whenever they meal prep, and a section where they have access to asking a professional dietician questions or concerns they may have about their diet and nutrition.
